I’m in the same boat as you, not being sure what to do. On the one hand, vulkan might improve things down the line, but in the absence of anything super concrete, i wouldn’t make hardware purchase choices based on a nebulous future possibility. also the vega cards have issues with textured volumetrics that has languished for several years now i believe blender developers have attributed these issues to apple abandoning opengl. Of course right after i got it, blender stopped supporting amd gpus for cycles rendering, so it offers exactly zero benefit for that use case.Įevee does still see a boost from the egpu, although i wouldn’t call it night and day. i supplemented it with a razer core x egpu enclosure and a vega 64 card.

I have a 2018 macbook pro with an amd 560x gpu. Some questions, hope to hear some people’s experience with using an EGPU with the mac using blender! Also I would be interested in you guys thoughts in general about the future of blender + mac and how future proof this solution is.

How does (in general )an NVidia card compare with a Radeon card when just using EEVEE? For me this is more important than Cycles.

How well (in general) does it work to use an EGPU with the mac? Do people have experience with this? I heard some people saying that the EGPU doesn’t add that much speed.

Do these innovations mean that a radeon card in the future will work better with cycles and that it will greatly improve performance for macs in the future?

Unzip the archive and now we are good to go with moving the only two files we need to the Applications folder.

Currently, it only supports CUDA GPU and has initial support for AMD so the render time may vary depending on the Graphics Card itself or the software may only support CPU rendering depending on the hardware support. It is also one of the few software that offers GPU rendering (Cycles Renderer). Blender is a free production ready open-source 2D/3D Animation software package that is used by studios and individuals to create stunning artwork, animated films, models, packshots, VFX, 3D printing and video game development.
